The Town of Kitty Hawk hired Stewart to update its Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) Land Use Plan, replacing the 2004 version. The update includes a new Future Land Use Map based on land suitability analysis, infrastructure vulnerability, and sea level rise projections.
Stewart’s Community Planning team managed the project, led public engagement, developed land use and resiliency strategies, and produced the final plan and presentation materials. The plan prioritizes land use compatibility, coastal resilience, workforce housing, stormwater management, and improved pedestrian and bicycle connections.
A 2-foot sea level rise scenario guided recommendations for conservation, adaptation, and infrastructure planning. Stewart’s Landscape Architecture team contributed conceptual designs for new recreational amenities near Town Hall.
The CAMA Land Use Plan provides Kitty Hawk with a framework to manage growth and adapt to rising seas while preserving its coastal character. Read more about the project here.
