Three Stewart projects are recognized at the 2025 Structural Engineering Awards by the Structural Engineers Association of North Carolina (SEA of NC) for excellence in structural design. These awards honor the creativity, precision, and collaboration that define our profession and the impact structural engineering has on communities.
Guilford County Schools Professional and Community Education Center
Award: New Construction $25M–$100M

A new three-story, 70,000-square-foot hub for learning, the Professional and Community Education Center brings classrooms, offices, and maker spaces together with a dramatic glass lobby and two-story assembly room. Stewart provided structural engineering for the building and sloped site, including deep retaining walls and cantilevered framing that support the lobby and assembly space.
Craven County Courthouse Expansion and Emergency Operations Center
Award: Retrofit/Alteration over $10M

This four-story courthouse expansion in New Bern, NC, creates a centralized home for the county’s Emergency Operations Department while addressing flood-prone coastal conditions. Stewart’s design features a deep foundation system with CFA piles and an 18-inch-thick mat slab to stabilize the structure and resist buoyant forces below the water table.
City of Asheville Fire Station 13
Award: New Construction $5M–$25M
The City of Asheville’s Fire Station 13 combines the fire department, police substation, and emergency operations center into a modern, LEED Certified facility. Built on a steep site, Stewart engineered the structure to step naturally with the terrain—eliminating large retaining walls and creating five functional levels. The result is a durable, efficient, and community-focused facility designed for resilience and adaptability.
Congratulations to our clients, partners, and team members whose expertise and collaboration made these award-winning projects possible.
