Five Questions with Chris Partin

Stewart asked Chris Partin, BIM Designer/BIM Coordination Lead, Five Questions. Here’s what he had to say!
Q1: What do you do at Stewart, and what is your favorite part of the job?

I’ve been trying to explain this very question to my wife (and the rest of my family) since I started working for Stewart. I work in the Structural group as a BIM Designer. The easiest way to describe it is that I build buildings with digital Legos. While that’s super exciting for the kid in me, my favorite part of the job is the people I work with every day. No job is fun without fun people working alongside you.

Q2: What led you to a career in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry?

Back when I was in 1st grade, we had an assignment that asked us, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” My response was: “Work on computers and be an architect.” While I did not become an architect, I feel like I remained pretty close to that original dream. I’ve had people along the way give me guidance — from my teachers in school to friends in college. I have always enjoyed drawing and building, and I think it all started with that 1st-grade assignment.

Q3: If you could share one piece of advice with someone just starting out in their career, what would it be?

Do what you enjoy and are passionate about. Try some things out as a career when you’re young, but don’t settle for anything unless you’re having fun doing it. Careers have ups and downs, and if you don’t have that foundation of enjoyment and passion when the down times come then you won’t make it very long.

Q4: What topic, cause or organization are you most passionate about, and why?

The Hero Initiative is an organization that is close to me. They are an organization that helps comic book creators who need emergency medical aid, financial support, and help in getting work. As a long-time comic book fan, reader, and collector, I’ve learned that the comic industry isn’t a high-paying career, especially for those people who worked in the early days of the industry. Hero Initiative is led by comic industry professionals who want nothing but to give back to those who helped create the foundation of the industry.

Q5: What is your favorite TV show, movie or album of all time?

Favorite of all time?! Wow. That’s a tough one. I still listen to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band at least once a month, and I have listened to a rotation of Linkin Park’s albums on a weekly basis for the last 20+ years.
