The trail is a 10-foot-wide paved and boardwalk path that winds for six miles along the Big Cross Creek corridor, connecting Fayetteville State University to Fort Bragg. The route encounters significant wetland areas requiring boardwalk structures for nearly half of the trail. The significant boardwalk presented many challenges for hydrology and flood rise compliance in an area regularly prone to flooding. The team evaluated many alternative alignments to avoid property acquisitions, environmentally sensitive areas, and property.
