The Discovery Center is a new learning hub located at the Bullis School, a private 2-12 school. Stewart led the design for the campus fabric surrounding the new center, including the development of a new discovery quad at the center of campus. The campus design empowers the planning principles of the overall campus master plan through the creation of a main pedestrian esplanade connecting all major buildings. Within this esplanade, we created a new learning environment focused on environmental-based learning associated with stormwater rain gardens.
A new outdoor classroom was created with a “learning from water” theme in which students capture water in cisterns to irrigate their food production plants. They also capture stormwater and clean in a bio-diverse rain garden. A new roof garden serves as another learning environment and a place of respite with edible plantings surrounding seating spaces.
