Pickleball Complex at Burlington City Park

Stewart provided comprehensive landscape architecture and civil engineering services for the premier 17-court pickleball complex at Burlington City Park. Now one of the largest dedicated pickleball facilities in the Triad, this state-of-the-art facility includes a covered championship court, lighting for evening play, and sunshades to enhance player comfort during summer months. Additional services Stewart provided were site grading, drainage, and utility coordination to ensure optimal functionality under varying weather conditions.

Designed to support both recreational play and tournament-level competition, the complex includes ADA-accessible walkways, shaded seating, and viewing areas for spectators. A pickleball-themed mural by local artist Artie Barksdale III celebrates the vibrancy of the sport and community.

Operated by Burlington Recreation & Parks, the facility offers structured programming, walk-up access, and memberships that include court reservations, ball machine use, discounts, and access to clinics and leagues. Its daily operation and flexibility make it a hub for players of all skill levels and ages.

Poised to generate strong economic returns, Burlington City Park will host tournaments, events, and organized league play attracting players and spectators from across North Carolina and beyond. The amenity represents a growing trend across North Carolina, where municipalities are investing in health-focused, community-driven amenities like pickleball courts to encourage active lifestyles. This positions Burlington as a key destination within North Carolina’s fast-growing pickleball network, which now includes more than 615 venues and is ranked 8th in having the most pickleball courts in the United States.
