The Duke University Eye Center works with visually impaired patients, so our team took care to ensure that the site design details provided a calming experience for patients. Specific site details included sensory planting, handrails incorporated with braille, and various textured paving surfaces.
The center achieved LEED Silver. Our contributions to sustainable design contributed 20 percent of the required LEED credits, including permeable paving, drought-tolerant planting, and stormwater filtration devices to help reduce impacts on the natural environment. The project consists of a six-story, 165,000-square-foot concrete framed structure.
