This greenway stretches from the foot of Falls Lake Dam 30 miles to the Wake/Johnston County Line and is the longest paved greenway in North Carolina. The trail traverses stunning scenic views of the river, exposes users to undisturbed natural wetland systems, provides connections with area neighborhoods, and forms an important link in the City of Raleigh Greenway System, the East Coast Greenway, and the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The project includes six large bridges over the Neuse River and a multitude of smaller bridges over tributaries to the Neuse, including two inter-jurisdictional projects that provide greenway connections to Wake Forest and Knightdale. Stewart provided innovative design and engineering in the design of two suspension bridges, which span the Neuse River. These bridges were the first pedestrian suspension bridges in the state. Stewart provided planning and design services for the project. Other services included GIS and field planning to establish a preliminary alignment, surveying, public involvement, preparation of a categorical exclusion, compliance with CWMTF regulations, NCDOT encroachment agreements, hydrologic analysis, drainage, structure design, final trail design, and construction administration. Phase I was delivered on time.
