Stewart’s community planners facilitated this community-driven and data-driven process to assess existing conditions, identify and prioritize projects to enhance Kitty Hawk’s resilience to coastal hazards. The Community Planning team collaborated with Stewart’s Civil Engineering practice area to develop a resilience project portfolio.
Stewart led the development of the plan, including public engagement, facilitation of Community Action Team (CAT) meetings, mapping and analysis, project portfolio development and document preparation. Resilient Kitty Hawk introduces both structural and nature-based solutions that preserve evacuation routes, protect private investments due to ocean overwash, and improve existing stormwater infrastructure.
