The Stewart Community Planning team worked with the Town of Siler City on updating its Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The team utilized targeted engagement strategies to reach the town’s diverse population to encourage an equitable engagement process. The Stewart team partnered with community-based organizations, provided online resources and social media coverage, participated in community events, and worked with a diverse steering committee to collaborate and empower all people in the community. On all occasions the team provided information in both English and Spanish and brought translators to community events, including Stewart’s CEO Willy Stewart.
The team balanced quantitative and qualitative methodologies to provide empirical evidence, reveal trends and pattern, and gain a contextual understanding to develop goals and strategies for housing, land use, economic growth and diversity, multi-modal transportation, public infrastructure, and conservation of natural resources. The plan’s policy recommendations lay the groundwork for updates to the town’s unified development ordinance.
