UNC Chapel Hill Genetic Medicine Building

The Genetic Medicine Building, designed by Lord Aeck Sargent, is a state-of-the-art research building. At approximately 331,000 square feet, it is one of the largest buildings on campus, with a floor plate of approximately one acre. The building is located off Mason Farm Road, just east of the Environmental Protection Agency building, adjacent to the proposed Translational Research Building.

This interdisciplinary approach between the School of Pharmacy and the School of Medicine allows researchers in the School of Pharmacy to work in a collaborative, open-design setting with their colleagues in the School of Medicine. Stewart provided water and sewer design and a stormwater management plan for the one-acre site and also provided special inspections during construction. Prior to starting the construction of the Genetic Science project, the existing Grounds Maintenance and Storage required relocation along with the creation of a new access route. The newly developed access is now the current access that is at the end of Hibbard Drive.
