Willy Stewart and a few friends braved the heat this past weekend at the Tour de Llama 2024, a one-of-a-kind cycling event in the Triad. The ride in Yadkin County featured plenty of hills, great camaraderie and of course, llamas, all to support the work of Samaritan Ministries. Charitable donations typically peak in winter around the holidays, so this summer event helps bring in funds throughout the year to support their mission of providing food, shelter and hope to the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community.
This annual event at Divine Llama Vineyards sees the cyclists head out through the rolling hills of Yadkin County before they return back to the farm to share lunch and meet the llamas. This year’s ride raised enough money to provide 14,035 meals or 1,167 days of shelter for our neighbors in need.
Willy and Sherri Stewart, along with John Davenport of Davenport Engineering, braved the 60-mile course in the 90+ degree weather and were glad to return to the shady farm at the end. These experienced cyclists called the ride tough because of the heat this year, but were happy to take part in this key fundraiser for the charity. Thank you to Michael West owner of Divine Llama Vineyards and partner in the architectural firm West & Stem Architects for putting on such a great event.
